In response to the increased demand for our geotechnical services, AMC Consultants is looking for a Senior /  Principal Geotechnical Engineer to work in our Melbourne office.

Who you will be working with and reporting to
Anthony de Veth, is the Technical Services Manager / Principal Mining Consultant and has been with AMC for more than 10 years, with over 20 years of experience in mining. His experience includes geotechnical, mine planning and production with roles in both open pit and underground mines. Anthony has just relocated back to AMC Melbourne after spending some time in the AMC Maidenhead office. Anthony enjoys fishing and follows Sydney Swans in the AFL.

Andrew Hall is the Director / General Manager Melbourne, Andrew has more than 25 years of mining and project management experience. His expertise is predominantly in feasibility study assessment, technical due diligence and business improvement in underground and open pit metalliferous mining projects. Andrew has been with AMC for 24 years. Outside of work Andrew is a keen Collingwood supporter.

Meredith Goss is the Principal Geotechnical Engineer with over 16 years’ experience of theoretical and practical experience in mining and civil geotechnical areas. Meredith’s experience includes both open pit, coal and metalliferous, and underground metalliferous mines, specializing in geotechnical studies from mining concept through to feasibility and implementation.

Ewa Czanowicki is the Administration Assistant and has been working with AMC for more than a year now. Ewa will work with you on all project related tasks, including formatting your proposals and reports, and helping you find your way around the timesheet programme and database. Ewa is currently studying her MBA and is always happy to help.
You will be working within a team of consultants in Melbourne and with a wide variety of industry specialists across our eight offices.
You will have to work with or manage multi-disciplinary teams either in the office or on site.

Now a bit more information about the role
Specialist skills required:
  • Experience as a mine-site geotechnical engineer in underground or open-pit environments—underground preferred.
  • Proven business development capability.
  • Demonstrated expertise in range of rock/soil mechanics problems and mining geotechnical engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a range of mining methods with a sound working knowledge of others.
  • High level of proficiency in a mine planning software package e.g. Datamine, Surpac or Vulcan etc.
  • Experience in technical consulting would be highly desirable
  • Project-management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including clients, senior management, technical professionals, and operational personnel.
  • Sound leadership and management skills, including leadership and management of technical groups.
  • Demonstrated ability in technical writing for reporting and communication.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, safety.
Qualifications required:
  • Tertiary qualified geological, mine, or civil engineer or other related mining discipline with relevant experience.
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in the mining industry.
  • Fluent in English—spoken and written. Secondary language skills viewed favourably.
  • Membership with the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), or be eligible to apply for membership.

The salary package offered for this position will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate
