In response to the increased demand for our underground mining engineering services, AMC Consultants is looking for a Principal Mining Engineer / Underground Manager to work in our Melbourne office.

Who you will be working with and reporting to
Andrew Hall is the Director / General Manager Melbourne, Andrew has more than 25 years of mining and project management experience. His expertise is predominantly in feasibility study assessment, technical due diligence and business improvement in underground and open pit metalliferous mining projects. Andrew has been with AMC for 24 years. Outside of work Andrew is a keen Collingwood supporter.

Mark Flanagan is the Open Pit Manager / Principal Mining Engineer with more tan 15 years’ experience in the planning and operation of large-scale open pit mines. Mark has managed and has been the lead mining engineer for a number of independent technical reviews,  feasibility studies and strategic optimization studies.

Tracey Bennett is the Office Manager in Melbourne and has been with AMC for over a year. Tracey is responsible for keeping the office running smoothly and oversees and assists the administration team who will work with you on all project related tasks. The administration team is responsible for booking all Melbourne’s travel requirements and are always happy to assist. If you’re new to Melbourne Tracey will be happy to advise you on the local area.

Peter Millane is the Group Administrator and has been working with AMC for more than 10 years now. Peter will work with you on all project related tasks, including formatting your proposals and reports, and helping you find your way around the timesheet programme and database.

Now a bit more information about the role
Specialist skills required:
  • Sound working knowledge of a broad range of underground engineering practices with expert knowledge in one or more aspects of mine engineering.
  • Strong technical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and report writing skills.
  • Experience conducting mining studies or business improvement initiatives.
  • Experience defining best practices for active mining operations but sometimes role requires site implementation of practices we recommend.
  • Good project management skills to manage time, cost and quality.
  • Actively supports mentoring of more junior engineers.
  • Software skills in contemporary mine planning packages regarded favourably.
  • Cave expertise regarded favourably
Qualifications required:
  • A degree in mining, civil, or geotechnical engineering with more than 15 years of practical mining experience relevant to the responsibilities listed above.
  • Membership with the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), or be eligible to apply for membership.
  • AusIMM Chartered Professional accreditation regarded favorably.
The salary package offered for this position will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate
