In response to the increased demand for our geology services, AMC Consultants is looking for a Principal Geologist to work based from our Melbourne office.

Who you will be working with and reporting to
Anthony de Veth is the General Manager Melbourne / Principal Mining Consultant, with more than 20 years of experience in mining, geotechnical engineering and project management, acting in both consulting services and production roles. His experience includes geotechnical, mine planning and production roles, in both open-pit and underground mines. Anthony has worked with AMC for 15 years and has recently returned back to Melbourne after a few years in our Maidenhead office. Outside of work Anthony is a keen Sydney supporter in the AFL and Storm supporter in the NRL.

Meredith Goss is the Technical Services Manager / Principal Geotechnical Engineer with over 18 years’ experience of theoretical and practical experience in mining and civil geotechnical areas. Meredith’s experience includes both open pit, coal and metalliferous, and underground metalliferous mines, specializing in geotechnical studies from mining concept through to feasibility and implementation.

Tracie Burrows is a Principal Geologist with 30 years’ experience in mining geology and resource evaluation. Tracie’s experience includes resource estimation, feasibility studies, technical audits and reviews, due diligence studies, and independent technical specialist reports. She has project management experience in geological pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, as well as mine closure and commissioning. Tracie is also a keen gardener.

You’ll be part of and able to call on the broader Technical Community of  experienced mining and resource estimation geologists who each have their own areas of expertise.

Now a bit more information about the role
Specialist skills required:
  • High level of proficiency in kriging type estimations.
  • Exposure to and use of probabilistic estimation methods.
  • High level of proficiency in mining and geostatistical software packages.
  • Some experience technical reviews, evaluations, and due diligence.
  • Experience in a range of commodities.
  • Ability and willingness to act as a Competent Person, as defined by the JORC Code, in at least one style of mineralization.
  • Some familiarity with reporting codes and rules in different international jurisdictions.
  • Experience as a mine geologist.
  • Experience in technical consulting, is highly desirable.
  • Business development capability, or commitment to grow business development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver technical work on time.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate and timely advice, on projects and strategic opportunities, to a high-standard.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management of self and small group projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including clients, peers, senior management, other discipline technical professionals, and operational personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability in technical writing for reporting and communication.
  • Demonstrated understanding, commitment to, and leadership in safety.
Qualifications required:
  • Tertiary qualification in geology with relevant experience.
  • Desirable, post graduate qualifications in any of geostatistics, economic geology, structural geology, geochemistry, computing, data science or project management.
  • Minimum of fifteen years of experience in the mining industry.
  • Membership of AIG or AusIMM  or a recognized professional organisation.
  • Fluent in English—spoken and written. Secondary language skills viewed favourably.
  • Applicant must have the established right to work in Australia.
The salary package offered for this position will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate
