Principal Mining Engineer - Underground

In response to the increased demand for our underground mining engineering services, AMC Consultants is looking for a Principal Mining Engineer to work in our Adelaide office.

Who you will be working with and reporting to
Johann van Wijk is the General Manager of the Adelaide Office. Johann is a mining engineer with about 30 years’ experience in mining and geotechnical engineering. He has experience in a range of projects and commodities and has been with AMC for 12 years.

Ali Abedi and Kathryn Lee are Senior Mining Engineers who are well-experienced in mine design and scheduling. Ali also has experience in reserve estimation and large mining studies.

Andrew Proudman is the Geology Manager. Andrew is a Principal Consultant qualified in geology and geotechnical engineering. He has over 30 years’ experience in a variety of commodities and styles of deposits.

Specialist skills required:
  • Sound working knowledge of a broad range of underground mining engineering practices with expert knowledge in one or more aspects of mining engineering.
  • Experience with block caving or sub level caving.
  • Strong technical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and report writing skills.
  • Experience conducting mining studies and business improvement initiatives.
  • Substantial experience in financial modelling and valuation.
  • Advanced mine design and analysis capabilities.
  • A keen interest in business improvement and advanced optimisation studies.
  • Ability to establish new, and maintain current, client relationships.
  • A flair for business development will be considered favourably.
  • Experience in defining best practices for active mining operations and site implementation of recommended practices.
  • Good project management skills to manage time, cost, and quality.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Software skills in contemporary mine planning packages.
Qualifications required:
  • A degree in mining engineering with more than 15 years of practical mining experience relevant to the responsibilities listed above.
  • Membership with the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) or be eligible to apply for membership.
  • AusIMM Chartered Professional (CP) accreditation or the requisite requirements to register at CP.
Salary
The salary package offered for this position will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate
